[ARCHIVED] GMS Parent Newsletter - October 28, 2020

October 28, 2020

GMS Parents, Guardians, & Students:

This week we welcomed more students back into our buildings.  It was great to see our students again!

As a reminder, students may not arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. This is the time that the doors will open and students will be allowed into the building.  Student dismissal will begin at 12:45 with those students who are walking home or being picked up by an adult, leaving the building first.  Bus students will then be called down 2 busses at a time.

Students are asked to charge their Chromebooks each night and come to school with fully charged devices.  All students who are attending in-person learning need to have a school issued device.  Unfortunately, personal devices brought into the building from home will not be able to connect to our wifi.  If your child is going to be coming to school in-person, please make sure you call the office and arrange to pick up a Chromebook if you have not yet done so.

This year we are not using lockers for student belongings.  Students are asked to bring a small bag or backpack to school with them to carry their belongings.  As these bags/backpacks must travel with students, please limit what is being put in them so they do not get too heavy.

Breakfast and lunch are free for all students.  Breakfast is available for students to pick-up on their way into the building each morning and lunches are delivered to classrooms.  Students will be eating both of these meals in the classroom.

The district calendar originally had Tuesday, November 3rd listed as a half-day.  This will now be a regular day of school for GPS.  GMS students in Cohort A will come to school from 7:30 am to 12:45 pm.

Please call the office or reach out to your student’s teachers if you have questions or concerns.

Today and tomorrow  from 2-4,  Ms. Higgins will be passing out art kits to any students who are planning on staying fully remote (Cohort D). There will be a drive through pick up in front of GMS for 5th, 6th and 7th grade students who need art supplies for the rest of the school year. The kits will include paper and art supplies for the projects we are working on this year.  You do not need to reserve a kit, but I am asking students to let me know if they would like one, so I can get a basic count of how many kits to prepare.

If you are coming to school for hybrid learning, you will not need to pick one up, as any art supplies you need will be given during the school day.

If you have any questions, please contact me at  higginsc@gardnerk12.org

Thank you!

Monday, November 2nd is College Day at Gardner Middle School.  Students should plan to wear any college gear they may have to represent their favorite colleges and universities.

Bussing

Update: This will be available beginning November 2, 2020.

Gardner Public Schools is now using a new app called “Here Comes the Bus” which will allow parents to see where the bus is at any given time.  This will help knowing when students should be heading out to the bus stop and when they will be arriving home.  In order to sign up for this service you will need to know the SASID number assigned to your student.  The second document linked below explains how you can obtain this information from Plusportals.  Bussing information should be sent out from the Superintendent’s Office  shortly.
