[ARCHIVED] Update from the Superintendent 3.31.22

March 31, 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The impending opening of our first ever new elementary school is absolutely thrilling! Planning is well underway as our school takes shape. However, having one elementary school that will educate all of Gardner’s children from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 4 will require some district-wide operational changes next year. One of the biggest changes will be school bus transportation.

After reviewing the bussing options, and with the goal that we wanted the elementary school students to be able to start their school day earlier, we have come up with the best option: switching the start times of the Middle School and High School times. That will accommodate the bussing routes better to ensure that the Elementary School students can be picked up on time. Making this change not only aligns better with the developmental sleep needs of our students, but it also will allow our elementary students to begin and end their day fifteen minutes earlier than the current start time for Elm Street School and thirty minutes earlier than Waterford Street School! Although that seems like a small change, we expect it will have a positive impact on our youngest learners!

I am providing you with this information now, so you can plan accordingly for the opening of school next year. More detailed information about start times will be coming soon. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,

Mark J. Pellegrino

Superintendent
