Weekly COVID testing at GMS

The National Guard joined our GPS nursing staff on Tuesday to help test students and staff who are signed up for weekly COVID testing. We have over 300 students signed up for this program. This will be happening every Tuesday and is conducted as soon as students enter the building in the morning.

Please reach out to our GMS School nurse if you would like to have your child participate in this program.

Rec Basketball

Please see below for information regarding this year's rec basketball program.  Like last Summer, we will be offering boys and girls rec basketball for grades 4,5, and 6.  (Biddy Ball will be offered for students in grades k-3).  If you are interested in registering, please use the link below.

Rec Basketball flyer

Good Afternoon,

I am reaching out because this week your student showed interest in potentially playing basketball this winter.

As you may, or may not know, there are multiple opportunities to play basketball in Gardner.

The first is Middle School basketball.  Middle school basketball is an interscholastic sport played against other traveling middle school teams.  Tryouts for MS BBall are open to 5-8th graders, and we start the week after thanksgiving.  The season runs five days per week after school, with games starting in Mid December (2 games per week, typically).  This season ends in February.  If you are interested in playing middle school  basketball, please use the following link (https://gardner-ar.rschooltoday.com/) to register your student.  Along with registration, I will also need a copy of an up to date physical.  Students cannot try out without being registered, and having a physical on file with me. Once tryouts are complete, we will make our team selections and move forward with the season.  Once team selections are made, there is no opportunity to join the team.  If you have any problems registering, please email me directly.  There is no user fee for MS Basketball.

The second option we have is Travel Basketball.  This time-table is a little more narrow, as tryouts for the boys travel program are tonight, 11/5, at GHS (4-6th grade are from 615-715, and 7/8th grade are 730-830pm); and the girls are Monday.  Travel basketball practices twice a week (these times do not conflict with MS basketball), and play games on Sunday mornings.  If you are interested in trying out, you can register your student at www.gbtb.net.  These teams are tryout-based, and there is no fee to tryout (though if you make a team there is a fee).

Our third option is rec basketball.  Rec Basketball is played on Saturday mornings and is open to GMS students in grades 4/5/6.  The fee for travel basketball is $40.  Rec basketball is instruction driven, with weekly games between the teams.  This is a popular option for everyone, as it fits nicely with both new players, and those with more experience.  If you are interested in registering for Rec basketball, please use this link https://forms.gle/VEHHjK4BcUFCPsi87.  I have also attached a flier with all of the rec basketball details.

Please note, it is VERY common for students to play multiple, if not all of the above options.  Our goal is to provide basketball options for all skill levels.

If you have ANY questions, please let me know.

Best,

Daniel Forte

Limited people allowed in the halls at any one time with masks on. This is only if Massachusetts is like it was last year with restrictions, otherwise it will all be traditional starting with walkers leaving at 8am  and runners at 8:30AM with optional masks.
