  3. Fall Exhibit Opening Reception

The Exhibit (up until the end of the year during regular museum opening hours) displays hand-crafted books from the ongoing Chair City Oral History Project (telling stories of people who worked at Nichols & Stone, the last large furniture factory to close in Gardner in 2008.) and examples of the vintage printing tools and hand-binding techniques used. The panel discussion that follows the opening reception will explore what it means to be the "Chair City" after most of our furniture factories have closed and been torn down. Panelists include Nichols & Stone workers, Dr. Kate Dudley (Professor of Anthropology and American Studies at Yale University), and Tim McGuire who runs the woodshop at Spark Maker Space in CT.
