Community Profile

The City of Gardner serves as the hub for regional activity in North Central Massachusetts.  Major shopping areas, significant industry and manufacturing, Mount Wachusett Community College, Heywood Hospital, Gardner Municipal Golf Course, and the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce are among resources located within the city.  Each serves the Greater Gardner area which is comprised of nine surrounding towns and occupies 310 square miles.


The City of Gardner is located approximately 28 miles northwest of Worcester, 55 miles west of Boston, 61 miles northeast of Springfield, and 195 miles from New York City.  State Route 2 is the principal four-lane highway that runs east to west through Gardner allowing travel to Boston and New York state along the northern tier of Massachusetts.  State Routes 68, 101, and 140 also dissects the City and act as north/south routes that run from Providence and Worcester to the south and New Hampshire to the north.  Other transportation options include local bus service, commuter rail via Montachusett Area Regional Transit Authority, freight service, and a local airport.”
